On February 25, the 8th session of the parliamentary dialogue "Turkmenistan - European Union" was held in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the delegation of the European Parliament, headed by Giuseppina Princi, head of the group for cooperation with Central Asian countries.
As reported on the official website of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, during the meeting the importance of unanimously adopting, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly resolutions "2025 - Year of International Peace and Trust" and "Central Asia - a zone of peace, trust and cooperation" was emphasized.
At the same time, the guests were acquainted with the priorities of Turkmenistan's domestic and foreign policy, the work carried out in the field of human rights, gender equality, youth policy, science and education, social security, and environmental well-being.
The head of the delegation of the European Parliament Giuseppina Princi and members of the delegation highly appreciated Turkmenistan's cooperation with world countries and international organizations, the country's efforts in the areas of human rights protection, ecology, energy security, and the creation of international transport corridors based on Turkmenistan's neutrality policy and generally recognized norms of international law.
The parties noted that regular bilateral parliamentary meetings and consultations will be of great importance for consolidating the agreements reached between Turkmenistan and the EU.
The Turkmen side noted that the activities of the joint commission "Turkmenistan-European Union" and the Parliamentary Dialogue "Turkmenistan-European Union" contribute to the development of bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest. They also noted the importance of implementing the "National Action Plan to Ensure Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025" and the "National Action Plan to Ensure Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025" from the point of view of protecting human rights and freedoms in the country.
