
In 2025, relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan will reach a new level of strategic cooperation. This was noted by the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan Gismet Gazalov in an interview with the AZERTAC news agency.
According to the diplomat, high-level mutual visits have created a solid foundation for expanding cooperation in the economic, energy, transport, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. In July, the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, paid a visit to Baku and Karabakh. During the visit, initiatives aimed at further deepening bilateral cooperation were discussed.
In August, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended a trilateral meeting in Avaza with the heads of state of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The meeting concluded with the signing of important documents on cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors.
The summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Gabala in October was another important platform for strengthening relations. During the event, the foundation stone for a mosque to be built in the Azerbaijani city of Fuzuli was laid at the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
In November, Azerbaijan was admitted as a full member of the Consultative Format of Heads of State of Central Asia at a summit in Tashkent. Turkmenistan invited Azerbaijan to participate in the next summit of this format, which will be held in 2026.
